Christopher Street Day Sick Berlin
Christopher Street Day Sick Berlin is a seasonal health occasion for which RAB Arztbesuche provides a licensed physician on a home visit anywhere in Berlin — daily from 6 am to midnight, usually within 60 to 90 minutes.
Berlin's Christopher Street Day in July draws hundreds of thousands to the streets — demo, truck parade, Pride Village at the Brandenburg Gate, parties across the entire weekend. In the middle of Berlin's summer heat, often above 30 °C, heat exhaustion, dehydration, sunstroke, circulatory problems and acute infection are common. We come daily 6 am to midnight to your hotel, apartment or home — discreet, non-judgmental, English-speaking.

CSD weekend — summer heat meets major event
Berlin CSD takes place every July, usually on a Saturday with a demonstration route from Leipziger Platz through Tiergarten, the Victory Column and the Brandenburg Gate, with hundreds of thousands of participants. In parallel Pride Village, the Lesbian-Gay City Festival in Schöneberg and countless parties, after-shows and receptions run throughout the entire weekend. Anyone dancing, walking and partying for several days in full sun, often with insufficient fluid intake, pushes their body to its limits quickly. Add alcohol, in some cases substance use, combined with heat, sleep deprivation and inadequate food intake — a mix that can become circulatorily significant.
We see CSD guests, Berlin residents and international visitors at house calls and in hotels — daily 6 am to midnight, English-speaking. In the appointment we check vital signs, hydration status, body temperature, blood glucose and ECG if needed, and decide about oral or IV fluids, anti-emetic therapy, pain relief or hospital admission. Discretion and non-judgment go without saying — we only ask what is medically relevant.
Heat exhaustion and dehydration after CSD
After a long day on the street, heat exhaustion and dehydration are the most common diagnoses. Symptoms: headache, dizziness, nausea, tachycardia, low blood pressure, dark concentrated urine, calf cramps. We measure vitals, assess severity and decide about oral rehydration or IV infusion. With very high body temperature (over 40 °C), altered consciousness or seizures, heatstroke is suspected — then 112 is the right choice. Read our separate page on Heatstroke Summer Berlin.
Discuss substance use openly — confidentially
If substances were part of the weekend, that is medically important to know — certain interactions, cardiac rhythm risks or complications can only be treated sensibly if we know. We work confidentially, without judgment, without automatic reporting. The goal is medical safety, not sanction. If acute intoxication with altered consciousness, seizure or respiratory depression is suspected, 112 is the right path — we stay on the phone until the ambulance arrives.
How the house call works after CSD
You call or message — we reply in German and English. We clarify symptoms and urgency and agree on a time window. Typical arrival in Berlin on CSD weekend: 60 to 120 minutes, since street closures and high traffic complicate route planning.
On site: history (confidential, non-judgmental), vital signs, physical examination, ECG and blood glucose if needed. Treatment: oral or IV fluids, anti-emetics, pain medication, prescription. Sick leave and a GOÄ invoice via our Privatärztliche Verrechnungsstelle are issued in English on request.
Emergency? Dial the emergency number
If unconscious, with severe chest pain, breathlessness or heavy bleeding, dial 112 immediately. Our service complements the emergency services — it does not replace them.
Case profiles
Typical scenarios
Heat exhaustion after the demo
Participant with dizziness, nausea and severe weakness after the demonstration. We rehydrate intravenously and stabilise over two hours.
International Pride guest at the hotel
Guest from the US with fever and GI symptoms after the weekend. We test, treat and issue the English certificate.
Circulatory collapse at after-show
Young adult with syncope in a club. Hospital admission was not desired — we check vitals and ECG the next day and advise.
Skin reaction after sun exposure
Sunburn and allergic skin reaction. We examine, rule out more serious reactions and advise on care.
Frequently asked questions
Do you also treat after substance use?
Yes, confidentially and without judgment. Medical safety comes first. With acute intoxication and altered consciousness, 112 is the right path — we treat the aftermath the next day or when vitals are stable.
Can you prescribe HIV post-exposure prophylaxis?
PEP initiation belongs in a specialised centre (Charité Auguste-Viktoria-Klinikum, Vivantes), ideally within 2 to 24 hours. We coordinate the referral and treat accompanying symptoms.
Do you issue English certificates?
Yes. Certificates for employers, travel insurance or international health insurance are routinely written in English.
How discreet is the house call?
Very discreet. We arrive in an unmarked car, without medical-look clothing. At hotels we go directly to the room or check in at reception — your choice.
