Pollen Forecast Berlin May
Pollen Forecast Berlin May is a seasonal health occasion for which RAB Arztbesuche provides a licensed physician on a home visit anywhere in Berlin — daily from 6 am to midnight, usually within 60 to 90 minutes.
May is peak pollen season in Berlin: grasses, oak, ribwort plantain, later mugwort. Anyone struggling in May with acute allergic symptoms, chest tightness or wheezing — and unable to sit for hours in a crowded practice — can call us. We come to the office, hotel or home.

Berlin pollen in May — grasses dominate
In May the Berlin grass-pollen season peaks. Tempelhofer Feld, Gleisdreieck park, Volkspark Friedrichshain and the brownfields along the urban motorway are especially pollen-heavy. The Stiftung Deutscher Polleninformationsdienst (PID) publishes daily forecasts for Berlin — on high-load days structured therapy beats self-medication.
At the house call we identify the main trigger, check whether the lower airway is already involved (transition from hay fever to allergic asthma), and set a stepped plan. For asthmatics we check peak-flow values, inhalation technique and emergency kit. Prescription and a GOÄ invoice via the Privatärztliche Verrechnungsstelle are issued the same day.
Lower-airway involvement — when it gets serious
About a third of untreated hay-fever patients develop allergic asthma over the years. Early signs: irritating cough during sport, chest tightness, wheezing while breathing outdoors. Early examination pays off — a timely-detected transition is well treatable.
Asthma attack emergency
For severe asthma attacks with marked shortness of breath, blue lips, exhaustion or no response to the rescue spray (salbutamol), call 112 immediately and keep using the spray. Our service complements — it does not replace the emergency service.
How the house call works during May pollen peak
Call, brief description of symptoms and history. We agree on a time window — typical arrival 60 to 90 minutes — and arrive equipped for an initial allergological-pulmonological assessment.
On site: history, lung auscultation, oxygen saturation, peak-flow if needed, treatment plan, prescription (antihistamine, nasal corticosteroid, inhaled bronchodilator if needed). Specific IgE blood tests are arranged when needed.
Emergency? Dial the emergency number
If unconscious, with severe chest pain, breathlessness or heavy bleeding, dial 112 immediately. Our service complements the emergency services — it does not replace them.
Case profiles
Typical scenarios
Professional with worsening asthma
Known grass-pollen allergy, now increasing cough and chest tightness. We check whether long-term medication needs adjustment.
Allergic athlete
A Tiergarten runner with irritating cough and shortness of breath. We examine, advise on training and adjust therapy.
Child with first asthma signs
Schoolchild with shortness of breath during sport. We examine, advise and refer to paediatric allergology if needed.
Pregnant patient with hay fever
Therapy must be pregnancy-compatible. We choose appropriate agents, document the indication and coordinate with gynaecology.
Frequently asked questions
When is May pollen worst in Berlin?
Grass pollen typically peaks mid-to-late May, earlier or later depending on weather. Dry, warm, windy days are especially loaded; rain clears the air.
Which pollen is the main May trigger?
In Berlin mostly grasses (timothy, cocksfoot, meadow foxtail), oak and ribwort plantain. For birch-allergic people, symptoms often recede by May — birch peaks in April.
Can I do outdoor sport during pollen peak?
Possible with strategy: early morning or after rain, away from heavily flowering areas, with good antihistamine cover. Asthmatics should inhale a bronchodilator before sport — we discuss this individually.
How do I tell hay fever from a cold?
Hay fever: sneezing fits, itchy eyes, clear mucus, no fever, often bilateral, situation-dependent (park, open windows). Cold: gradual onset, often with sore throat and fever.
