English-speaking on-call doctor Berlin

English-speaking on-call doctor Berlin is an occasion for a private medical home visit, for which RAB Arztbesuche dispatches a licensed physician to your home, office or hotel in Berlin daily from 6 am to midnight.

An English-speaking on-call doctor in Berlin should not be an exception — it should be the default. For us it is. Every shift includes a fluent English-speaking physician. We come to your hotel, apartment or home, examine in English, treat on site, issue prescriptions and certificates in English, and bill in GOÄ format that international insurers accept.

English-speaking on-call doctor in Berlin — what we mean by 'fluent'

Many German practices and on-call services advertise 'English-speaking', but the reality on the phone is often a few phrases and a reliance on the patient or a companion to translate. We work differently. Every physician on our shift is fluent in English at clinical level — full history taking, examination dialogue, explanation of differential diagnosis, informed consent, medication counselling. Some of our physicians have trained in the UK, US, Ireland or Australia; others completed German medical school and refined English through years of practice with international patients.

The clinical importance is not a marketing detail. A patient who can describe pain character, onset, triggers and family history precisely gets a more accurate diagnosis than one who is forced into simplification. Informed consent for medication — especially with allergies, comorbidities, or pregnancy — is only valid if the patient understood the doctor. We work to that standard, not to a translated approximation.

Typical English-language situations in Berlin

Tourists at Mitte, Charlottenburg and Tiergarten hotels with febrile respiratory infections, gastroenteritis, urinary infections, migraine or back pain. Expats in Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Neukölln and Pankow apartments with acute illness for themselves or their children. Diplomats and embassy staff with acute presentations needing a defensible medical opinion. International corporate staff (Tesla in Grünheide and across Berlin offices, Zalando, Delivery Hero, SAP Labs Berlin) with acute illness during a deadline week. Postdocs and visiting scientists at Charité, MDC, MPI, FU, HU and TU. International students with a sick-note requirement. Business travellers between meetings.

Documentation, certificates and insurance — all in English

We issue prescriptions, sick notes, Fit-to-Fly certificates, Unfit-to-Fly statements, physician's letters and insurance attestations in English (or bilingual German/English) on request. ICD-10 codes are international, medication is named with the international non-proprietary name (INN), and dosing is explained in standard SI units. International insurers (Cigna Global, Aetna International, Bupa Global, GeoBlue, AIG, Allianz Travel, AXA Assistance, Europ Assistance) accept our GOÄ invoices and English documentation without issue. For assistance providers wanting direct billing under a Guarantee of Payment, we clarify by phone before the visit.

How an English-language house call works

You call. We answer in English. We record symptoms, address, language preference, insurance and assistance provider. We give a realistic arrival window — typically 60 to 90 minutes. The physician calls before arrival, in English. On site: history in English, thorough examination, targeted diagnostics (rapid tests, ECG, pulse oximetry as indicated), treatment.

You receive a prescription (we name an English-friendly Berlin pharmacy on request), a sick note or certificate in English, a physician's letter for your home GP if needed, and the GOÄ invoice — itemised by code with an English diagnosis sheet on request. For follow-up we can recommend Berlin specialists with confirmed English-speaking practice.

GOÄ, international insurance and corporate accounts

All services are billed under the GOÄ via our Privatärztliche Verrechnungsstelle. Typical cost EUR 240 to 400 on weekdays, EUR 280 to 460 on weekends and public holidays. PKV reimburses fully. International travel and health insurers reimburse GOÄ invoices in the vast majority of cases. Self-payers pay directly and submit the invoice for reimbursement themselves.

Corporate accounts and embassy medical desks can arrange invoicing to the employer with a basic agreement. For acute Guarantee-of-Payment cases we coordinate with the assistance provider before the visit. For life-threatening emergencies: 112. For low-threshold advice outside our hours: 116117.

Emergency? Dial the emergency number

If unconscious, with severe chest pain, breathlessness or heavy bleeding, dial 112 immediately. Our service complements the emergency services — it does not replace them.
