Ill before the concert — the specific problem
Berlin draws millions of concert and event guests every year. Mercedes-Benz Arena, Uber Eats Music Hall, Waldbühne, Olympiastadion for stadium shows, Wuhlheide, the Philharmonie, the Staatsoper, Tempelhofer Feld for festivals — the list is long and the audience comes from all over Europe. Waking up on a concert day with a fever, migraine, gastroenteritis or severe sore throat raises two questions: can I even attend? And if not, how do I claim my ticket back?
We answer both. Clinically we determine whether attendance is responsible — a concert hall with 12,000 other people is not the right place for streptococcal angina, nor for migraine with light and noise sensitivity. With a clearly fit-to-travel finding and well-controlled symptoms (e.g. a viral infection with 38 °C, responsive to antipyretics), attendance can be possible. With acute streptococcal angina, high fever, RSV, influenza or severe migraine we advise against it and issue a medical certificate for ticket insurance.

Medical certificate for ticket insurance
Many ticket-cancellation insurers — Eventim Insurance, AXA Event-Cancellation, ERGO Direkt and others — require a medical certificate with diagnosis and date of illness for reimbursement. We issue this certificate on site, in German and English on request. If the insurer specifies a standardised template, we complete it. A simple sick note is usually not enough — insurers want a clear link to the event date. We take that into account.
How an event-day visit works
You call. We take down symptoms, hotel name, event details and remaining time. Under time pressure we prioritise — calling at 2 PM for an 8 PM concert means we move you up where possible. The physician calls before arrival. On site, a thorough examination with rapid diagnostics as indicated and treatment — all with the question 'safe to attend or not' in focus.
You receive a medical recommendation with justification, prescription, the certificate for ticket insurance in the form needed, and the GOÄ invoice. If attendance is possible, you get clear behavioural rules (mask indoors, hydration, accessible seat). If not, a justification that insurers accept.
Cost and insurance billing
Standard GOÄ billing via Privatärztliche Verrechnungsstelle. Typical cost for an event-day hotel visit: EUR 220 to 380. PKV reimburses in full. International travel insurers usually reimburse fully too. Self-payers pay directly.
The certificate for ticket insurance is part of the medical service and not billed separately. For extensive form processing (some insurers require multi-page reports) a GOÄ certification code may be added — we say so transparently. For life-threatening emergencies: 112.
