Russian-speaking doctor Berlin

Russian-speaking doctor Berlin is an occasion for a private medical home visit, for which RAB Arztbesuche dispatches a licensed physician to your home, office or hotel in Berlin daily from 6 am to midnight.

If you live or travel in Berlin and prefer to describe symptoms in Russian — because German is missing, because English medical detail is not enough, because elderly relatives only speak Russian — you can get history, examination and counselling in your mother tongue. We coordinate internally to assign a Russian-speaking physician where available.

History in Russian — why it matters clinically

Berlin has a large Russian-speaking community — grown generations from the Soviet Union and successor states, Jewish quota refugees with families, recent arrivals from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Many speak perfect German — others not, or not in medical detail, or care for older relatives who only speak Russian. A medical history is more than an exchange of words: it requires precise descriptions of pain character, duration, triggers, accompanying factors. Someone who understands 'a slight tearing in the back' in Russian but in German can only say 'somehow hurts' risks an imprecise diagnosis.

Our team includes physicians with native Russian roots, some born and raised bilingually in Germany, others with medical training in Russia or Belarus and German recognition. On call we record the language preference and assign a Russian-speaking colleague where possible. If that is not possible right now, we work transparently with translation apps and/or a companion. We do not pretend we always have everything available.

Typical concerns among Russian-speaking patients

Elderly parents with hypertensive crises, acute confusion, fall sequelae, diabetic decompensation — son or daughter calls because mother or father will not or cannot come to a practice. Febrile infections in families with small children. Migraine and chronic headache with a complex history that can only be described differentially in Russian. Pain pictures with long backstories. Acute complaints in business travellers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Minsk, Almaty, Tbilisi or Kyiv with no German.

Documentation and translation

Physician's letters and certificates are issued in German — the legal standard for German employers, authorities and insurers. On request we add a Russian summary with diagnosis and treatment plan to help the patient or relatives understand. For reports forwarded to a physician in the home country we provide an English translation on request or a bilingual form (German/Russian is limited in the legal frame — the formal document is the German version).

How a house call with Russian-language care works

You call. We record symptoms, address, language preference (Russian) and insurance. We check immediately whether a Russian-speaking colleague is available in the current shift window and say honestly whether that is possible within an acceptable time. If not, we offer the alternative: visit by a German-speaking physician with translation support (companion or app).

On site: history in Russian (where possible), thorough examination, targeted diagnostics, treatment. You receive prescription, certificates in German (legally required), a Russian summary on request, and the GOÄ invoice. If follow-up is needed we coordinate with a GP or a Berlin hospital with Russian-speaking staff (Charité, Vivantes have this in part).

GOÄ and billing

Billing under the GOÄ via our Privatärztliche Verrechnungsstelle. Typical cost EUR 240 to 400 depending on time of day and diagnostic scope. PKV reimburses in full. Self-payers pay directly. Travel insurers from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Israel usually reimburse GOÄ invoices — we provide an English translation of the diagnosis on request.

For life-threatening emergencies: 112. With acute need and a language barrier, Berlin emergency rooms often have Russian-speaking staff or telephone translation services. For low-threshold advice outside our hours: 116117.

Emergency? Dial the emergency number

If unconscious, with severe chest pain, breathlessness or heavy bleeding, dial 112 immediately. Our service complements the emergency services — it does not replace them.

Frequently asked questions

Am I guaranteed a Russian-speaking doctor?

We try. Availability depends on the shift window — we say honestly on the phone whether it works today. If not, we offer alternatives (German- or English-speaking colleague, companion as translator, app support).

Are physician's letters issued in Russian?

The formal certificate (AU, letter for German authorities) is in German — legal standard. We add a Russian summary for comprehension on request.

Do you also come to Marzahn, Hellersdorf, Lichtenberg?

Yes. We cover all of Berlin. Arrival times in outer districts may be slightly longer — we give an honest range and keep it.

What does the house call cost?

GOÄ-compliant EUR 240 to 400 on weekdays, slightly more on weekends. PKV reimburses fully, and travel insurers from post-Soviet states usually do too.
