Late-evening doctor Berlin is an occasion for a private medical home visit, for which RAB Arztbesuche dispatches a licensed physician to your home, office or hotel in Berlin daily from 6 am to midnight.
When Berlin practices have long been closed, the second half of our day starts. Our board-certified team is on duty until midnight — typical arrival 45 to 90 minutes, often shorter because evening traffic is lighter. We examine, treat, issue prescription and sick note, and arrange follow-up the next morning if needed.

Late evening in Berlin — why a house call makes sense exactly then
Between 7 PM and midnight the Berlin care landscape shifts. GP practices close at 5 or 6 PM, late surgeries end by 7. When you come home from work and realise the cold is worse than expected, the sore throat is now accompanied by 39.2 °C or your back will no longer straighten, you face an awkward choice: a hospital ER, where four to six hours of waiting is standard for non-life-threatening cases — or 116117 hoping for a walk-in clinic referral or a home visit.
The private alternative is a house call from our team. We run dedicated evening shifts — the physician on duty is rested, has not spent the day in a packed practice, and has time for a thorough history. Evening arrival times are actually better than daytime: Berlin traffic eases significantly between 8 and 11 PM. 45 to 60 minutes is common in summer, 60 to 90 minutes in winter — we give you a realistic window on the phone.
Typical late-evening reasons
Frequent: fever that has climbed through the day and becomes critical at night, acute sore throat with suspected streptococcal angina, migraine attacks worsening after work, acute back pain after a long office day, gastroenteritis after dinner, hypertensive crises in the evening, allergic reactions, paediatric otitis. Hotel guests falling ill after a conference day and working adults realising they will not make it to work tomorrow round out the picture.
Sick note for tomorrow — does that work?
Yes. A sick note issued in the evening is valid from the day of the examination and covers the following morning. It is issued on site, can be forwarded to your employer as a photo by email immediately, and the paper original follows. That saves you the trip to the practice tomorrow morning — precisely when you should be staying in bed.
How a late-evening visit works
You call. We take down symptoms, address and insurance status, give you a time window and the physician calls before arrival. On site you receive a thorough examination — physical assessment, rapid tests as indicated (influenza, RSV, SARS-CoV-2, streptococcus, CRP), pulse oximetry, ECG if needed. Treatment happens on the spot — injection, inhalation, short infusion.
You receive a prescription and a sick note. We tell you which night-duty pharmacy is closest. If needed, we arrange a phone follow-up the next morning or a referral to your GP.
GOÄ evening surcharge
The GOÄ defines a surcharge for treatments outside regular office hours — typically from 8 PM. For PKV-insured and Beihilfe patients this has no out-of-pocket consequence — full reimbursement. Self-payers should expect an invoice between EUR 220 and 380 late in the evening, depending on diagnostics and treatment.
The invoice is issued through our Privatärztliche Verrechnungsstelle, itemised by GOÄ code. For the night after midnight, 116117 or 112 is responsible — we are the late shift, not the night service.

If unconscious, with severe chest pain, breathlessness or heavy bleeding, dial 112 immediately. Our service complements the emergency services — it does not replace them.

Frequently asked questions
How late can I still book?
We accept calls until roughly 10:30 to 11 PM so the physician arrives before midnight. Bookings for the night after midnight are not possible.
Is it a different physician than during the day?
We rotate in shifts. The late-evening physician is a rested board-certified colleague from the on-call team — not the overworked daytime doctor.
Will the evening sick note be accepted by my employer?
Yes. A medical sick note is valid regardless of the time of day it was issued.
What after midnight?
We do not operate after midnight. Call 116117 for medical advice and 112 for life-threatening emergencies. We are available again from 6 AM.
